(Well, technically the next stop is Nashville, followed by Dallas, followed by...most likely...Atlanta, followed by DC, but you get the idea...)

We have decided to rent an Italian villa in a coastal community. We aren't planning on trekking all around trying to see every landmark and tourist trap. We want to experience the foods, the outdoor markets, the vineyards, the restaurants, the music and the natural beauty of Italy. Another time, we may do the tourist thing...

We plan to travel to Italy in mid October. I may have a speaking opportunity in Spain at the beginning of the month in which case we'd spend some time in Spain and then continue onto Italy. I won't know about that for a little while though, but that would be neat.

I checked into first class travel, since I just went on a really long trip, and it was 10k each. Alrighty, then, we won't be selecting that option! It's only $500 for coach. I had a good idea: I'm going to buy 3 tickets. For just $500 extra, we will have the piece of mind knowing that no matter what, we won't be smooshed into cramped quarters with a stranger on top of us for our long journey. We'll have a seat between us that we can put stuff on, and we'll be able to shift our position during the long flight. I think everyone traveling a long flight should do that, as it's SO much less expensive than first class, and it accomplishes many of the same objectives. Problem solved!

wow, lots of exciting stuff upcoming for you and the darce - that's awesome!
and smart idea to have purchased the 3rd ticket rather than spending so much on 1st class... don't forget to check into all 3 seats at check in!
Many people have told me October is the best time to travel to iTaly. No crowds and still the weather is nice.
